This book is more than a collection of paintings by Karl Heinz Johannsmeier. It is a visual autobiography. It is not, however, like a sampling of photographs recording events from the artist's life with realistic accuracy. It is, rather, a romance without words in which each image represents a memory. It is a compilation of incidents, impressions, strong emotions, and bold ideas "recollected in tranquility," synthesized with one another and altered by the artist's imagination as artistic statements like visual poems and songs.
